An "Apprentice" is a worker who learns according to a written or oral contractual agreement. A "Craftworker" is a trained and recognized skilled tradesperson of the craft requiring 3 or 4 years of on-the-job training through job experience supplemented by related instruction, prior to being considered a qualified skilled Craftworker. High school or vocational school education is a prerequisite for entry into the Apprenticeship Program. Apprentices will be registered as a Apprentice by the State of Michigan Apprenticeship Agency and the Federal Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. Apprentices will be represented by a Union. "Apprenticeship program" comes under the guidance of a joint apprenticeship committee composed of representatives of the employees. These committees may determine need for apprentices in a locality and establish minimum apprenticeship standards of education, experience and training.
